Charities (Amendment) Bill 2023
This Bill provides for a number of amendments to the Charities Act 2009 . The Bill aims to provide greater transparency for the public in relation to finances and operations of registered charities and will introduce measures proportionate to the size and operation of charities.
It also takes account of the operational experience of the Charities Regulator in the years since its establishment in 2014, and contains measures to enhance the legal framework to enable the Charities Regulator to carry out its functions.
Key highlights of the Bill include:
- Providing greater transparency for the public in relation to finances and operations of registered charities.
- Introducing measures proportionate to the size and operation of charity.
- Measures to enhance the legal framework to enable the Charities Regulator to carry out its functions.
- Provides for the ‘advancement of human rights’ as a recognised charitable purpose.
